Dr. Chiemezie Atama's successful organization of a train-the-trainers Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) programme at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, under her organization 'Equity Watch Initiative', marks a significant step towards empowering communities through comprehensive training in essential life skills and gender advocacy.
Chiemezie Atama on successfully organizing a train-the-trainers ESD programme at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka under her organization 'Equity Watch Initiative'.The two day training saw 37 participants trained in 'Being alert', 'Assertiveness', 'Consent', 'Boundary setting', 'Bystander Intervention', 'Fashion as self defense', 'Flight and fight techniques', 'Getting out of a chokehold', 'Groundwork' as well as 'Empathy' amongst other ESD techniques.
Participants included Academic Doctors and Professors from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; leaders of gender advocacy groups, students as well as representatives from the persons with different abilities organization in Nsukka (All persons who either own or work in women support organizations).Highlights of the event were practical sessions as well as the streaming of the documentary 'Beauty bites beast'.
Dr Atama has been teaching ESD in Nsukka, Enugu state, Nigeria since her training in Rwanda in 2022.Organizing such an event in the region, is one that should be applauded and supported.
